The Adventist Development and Relief Agency Myanmar in corporation with Health Ministries department of Adventist church in Myanmar conducted health expo 2012 on January 9-11, 2012 in Latputta, Nargis affected area of delta, Myanmar.

This expo drew more than 1500 public attention towards Adventist health principles and guidelines of NEWSTART and CELEBRATION. The majority of population in the town is non Christian. The area was hit by Cyclone Nargis in 2008 which was the worst disaster in Myanmar history.

ADRA Myanmar team had carried out its relief and rehabilitation project implementation since 2008 in this area. The local authority and public of the town had very good reputation towards ADRA project implementation. Dr. Htwe Lay, the health ministries department director and team have been cooperating with ADRA Myanmar project in this regard. The medical team could take only 150 people for examination daily. It was not enough for the public. Due to the limited medical equipments and volunteered medical staffs it was not able to take all.

“In the beginning of our program, the township authority had hesitation to accept and to attend the program. But after attending first daily medical examination and expo, they had understood the entire program. They have well supported the program till the end.” Also requested us to conduct more program in the area in future” Dr. Htwe Lay, reported to the Union Mission headquarters.

The daily medical screening and examination program was impressed by township authority where the district administrator himself has formally opened the program. The Adventist health message was also spread by this health expo. The government officials and local authority were supporting this program and provided necessary assistance to the daily program.

After the health expo, the health ministries department and ADRA Myanmar team praised God for the success of the event. ADRA Myanmar will remain in the area for rehabilitation of livelihood project and health support project till next 3 years.

This will be the best trust building with the people of disaster affected area who will be closer to the Adventist health principle. The Adventist message will be reached through the health message.

“I was the one who help in the program. It was so exciting to see many people came to examine and listen health talk in the program” Said Yan Paing Myo, a volunteered in the health expo.
